1. Story-based
Participants will roll through a cohesive story of a people group; a story with a beginning, a middle, and a “right now.”
2. Centers Perspective of the Oppressed
Freedom Road, LLC seeks to tell the story through the lens of museums, resource experts, descendants and witnesses of the oppression we are investigating.
3. Biblical Concept of Shalom
Serves as the foundation for all Freedom Road, LLC pilgrimages. Onsite Orientation begins with an exploration of the biblical concept of shalom and its implications concerning race and politics.
4. Spiritual Formation
Freedom Road LLC pilgrimages utilize a variety of tools, such as Phyllis Tickle’s The Divine Hours, different forms of prayer, song and ceremony aiding participants’ capacity to engage with God while moving through transformative space and time.
5. Listening Circles
Listening Circles are an indigenous deliberation forum where participants share their stories from the heart, one by one; offering and receiving each other’s stories as gifts. Freedom Road, LLC leverages the power of Talking Circles to aid the process of information integration and community-building.
6. Diversity
Freedom Road, LLC is dedicated to shrinking the narrative gap through immersive experiences that bring common understanding, common commitments and lead to common action toward a just world. We immerse ourselves in the stories of the oppressed outside of the bus. And we aim to immerse ourselves in the stories that rise from a diverse community on the bus.
7. Coping & Resiliency Management (upon request)
When requested, Freedom Road, LLC can include on your pilgrimage team a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in Multicultural Community Psychology to aid participants in managing the trauma they may encounter as we immerse in the stories of the oppressed.
